STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Visit of Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos

The President has invited Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos to the White House for an official working visit on Friday, December 8. President dos Santos has accepted his invitation.

The two leaders will discuss ways to advance the peace process, sustain the restoration of peace and stability, and promote democracy and national reconciliation in Angola. They will also focus on efforts to increase bilateral trade and investment and revitalize the Angolan economy. The meeting will take place just past the one year anniversary of the signing of the Lusaka Protocol and will be President dos Santos' first visit to the White House since the United States recognized the Republic of Angola in May 1993.
