                    Statement by The Press Secretary on
              Visit of Turkish President Suleyman Demirel

President Clinton has invited Turkish President Suleyman Demirel to Washington for a working visit on October 18. President Demirel has accepted the invitation. This visit provides an opportunity for the two leaders to affirm the close ties between the United States and Turkey and to discuss issues of mutual interest, including U.S. support for Turkish integration into Europe, the vital role of Turkey in promoting regional stability, as well as a number of important bilateral and regional economic issues.
