         PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JILL L. LONG THOMPSON FEDERAL 
            REPRESENTATIVE TO THE RURAL TELEPHONE BANK BOARD

President Clinton today announced his intention to appoint Jill L. Long Thompson of Indiana as a U.S. Department of Agriculture Federal Representative to the Rural Telephone Bank Board.

Ms. Long presently serves as Under Secretary for Rural, Economic and Community Development at USDA. From 1989 until 1994, she represented the fourth Congressional District of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Rural Telephone Bank Board was established in 1971 and is the principal source of financing for rural telephone utilities. To date, the Rural Telephone Bank has made several billions of dollars in loans to over 600 telephone companies to help build rural America's telecommunications infrastructure.
