                    STATEMENT OF THE VICE PRESIDENT
                   ON THE INTRODUCTION OF LEGISLATION
                           TO REFORM THE FAA

We called for fundamental reform of the FAA two years ago as part of the National Performance Review's commitment to making government work better and cost less. This bill is a big step forward, particularly with regard to personnel and procurement reform. I commend Senators McCain and Ford for their efforts, and look forward to working with them on a comprehensive reform package that will ensure the continuing safety and efficiency of our air traffice control system.
