     President Clinton Names McDonald Administrator of St. Lawrence
         Seaway Development Corp., U.S. Dept. of Transportation

President Clinton today announced his intent to nominate Gail Clements McDonald as the administrator of the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp., U.S. Department of Transportation.

McDonald is the former chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) and presently serves as a commissioner of the ICC. Prior to her appointment at the ICC, she served as associate director of regulatory affairs for the Gas Research Institute in Washington, D.C. McDonald is the former state-federal liaison officer and the director of the energy conservation services division for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

The mission of the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. is to operate and maintain navigational facilities in the St. Lawrence Seaway in conjunction with the Canadian government. As administrator, McDonald will work with Secretary Federico Pena to provide executive direction and management for the corporation. She will coordinate the corporation's activities with other governmental bodies at the federal, state and local levels as well as with users, shipping organizations and other interested persons.
