STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Visit of Prime Minister P.J. Patterson of Jamaica

President Clinton has invited Prime Minister P.J. Patterson of Jamaica for a working visit on September 13 and Prime Minister Patterson has accepted. This visit provides an opportunity for the two leaders to review implementation of the initiatives agreed upon at the Summit of the Americas, including the negotiation of a Free Trade Area of the Americas by 2005. The two leaders will also discuss bilateral issues, including trade and investment and environmental protection.
