       PRESIDENT NAMES C. RICHARD ALLEN MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE 
             CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

     The President today announced his intent to nominate C. Richard

Allen as a Managing Director of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

C. Richard Allen of Maryland is currently a Deputy Assistant to President Clinton and the Chief External Affairs Officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Prior to joining the Clinton Administration in February of 1993, Mr. Allen served as Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Triangle Management Corporation and related entities based in Los Angeles. He also served on a number of civic boards and committees. Mr. Allen has written and lectured on a broad range of topics. Most recently, he co-edited The Collected Speeches of Robert Kennedy. Mr. Allen received his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1975 and his J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1978.

The Corporation for National and Community Service, created by the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993, engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities. Through its three main programs - Americorps, Learn and Serve America, and the National Senior Service Corps - the Corporation provides a broad range of opportunities for Americans to serve our communities and our nation. The efforts supported by the Corporation address the nation's challenges in the areas of education, public safety, human needs and the environment - with a strong emphasis on achieving direct and demonstrable results. Shirley Sagawa, the Corporation's other Managing Director, has been confirmed previously by the Senate.
