PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES MAJOR DISASTER IN ILLINOIS

The President today declared a major disaster in Illinois and ordered federal funds to supplement state and local recovery efforts in communities recently struck by severe storms and flooding. The President's action today makes federal funding available to affected individuals in two counties, Madison and St. Clair.

Assistance can include disaster housing, grants, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and businesses recover from the effects of the disaster.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is continuing to conduct damage surveys in other areas of Illinois and additional counties may be added after the assessments are complete.
