STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

State Visit by President Zedillo of Mexico

President Clinton has invited President Ernesto Zedillo of Mexico for a State Visit on October 10, 1995 and President Zedillo has accepted. The visit provides an opportunity for the two presidents to address a broad bilateral agenda, including trade and investment, immigration and border cooperation, narcotics and law enforcement, and environmental protection.

The two leaders will review implementation of NAFTA and progress toward stabilizing the Mexican economy under the financial support package. They will also discuss hemispheric and global issues, including implementation of initiatives agreed upon at the Summit of the Americas, including the negotiation of a Free Trade Area of the Americas by 2005.
