      PRESIDENT NAMES SANDRA J. KRISTOFF FOR THE RANK OF AMBASSADOR
              DURING TENURE OF SERVICE AS U. S. COORDINATOR
                  FOR ASIA PACIFIC ECONOMIC COOPERATION

The President today announced his intention to nominate Sandra J. Kristoff of Virginia for the rank of Ambassador during her tenure of service as U. S. Coordinator for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Ms. Kristoff currently serves in the State Department as Coordinator for APEC Affairs with Responsibility for U. S. participation in the 18 member APEC organization, which is headquartered in Singapore. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Kristoff served as Special Assistant to the President for Asia Pacific Economic Affairs at the National Security Council and the National Economic Council. She is a career Senior Executive Service officer with 18 years of government service in several agencies including the State and Commerce Departments and the Office of the U. S. Trade Representative.

Ms. Kristoff was born in Washington, Pennsylvania in 1949. She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from American University and a J. D. from George Washington University Law School. She currently resides in Virginia.
