Statement by President Clinton on Terrorist Bombing

On behalf of the American people, Ambassador Indyke has expressed to Prime Minister Rabin my condolences and deepest sympathy to the government and people of Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims of these terrorist outrages.

Once more, the enemies of peace have resorted to violence against innocent citizens of Israel. But those responsible must not and shall not be allowed to deny a better future of hope and reconciliation to the region. We must and will continue to exert all possible efforts to ensure that a just, comprehensive and lasting peace is achieved for Israel, the Palestinians, and all the peoples of the Middle East.
