STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

The Netherlands Decides to Buy U.S. Helicopters

President Clinton is very pleased that the Dutch Cabinet decided on April 7 to recommend to Parliament that the Netherlands purchase the McDonnell Douglas Apache helicopter. The Netherlands is a very important NATO ally. As President Clinton pointed out to Prime Minister Kok on February 28, it is essential for our common efforts that the Dutch military have the best helicopter available for future missions it may carry out, including peacekeeping. The Apache, one of several strong competitors, is battle-proven, an excellent value, and interoperable with NATO forces.
