PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES KARL STAUBER AS UNDER SECRETARY FOR RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND ECONOMICS AT THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE The President today announced his intent to nominate Karl Stauber
of Minnesota as Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Mr. Stauber presently serves as the Acting Deputy Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Stauber is the former Vice President of Northwest Area Foundation based in St. Paul, Minnesota which plans and initiates grants related to agricultural diversification, revitalization, capital and finance issues for economic and sustainable development. Mr. Stauber received his Ph.D. from Union Institute and his B.A. from the University of North Carolina.
The Department of Agriculture Reorganization Act created an Under Secretary for Research, Science and Economics to administer programs, services and research activities previously conducted within the offices of the Assistant Secretary for Science and Education and the Assistant Secretary for Economics. In his new capacity, Mr. Stauber will assist the Department in setting policy related to agriculture, nutrition and rural development.
