PRESIDENT NAMES TWO TO EXPORT COUNCIL

The President today announced his intent to appoint Joseph T. Gorman of Ohio and Richard Notebaert of Illinois to be members of the President's Export Council.

Mr. Gorman is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TRW Inc. He has been with TRW Inc. in numerous capacities since 1968. In addition, Mr. Gorman is a director of the Procter and Gamble Company and the Aluminum Company of America and serves as Chairman of the Business Roundtable's Education Task Force. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Council on Competitiveness. After receiving a bachelor's degree from Kent State University, he earned his law degree from Yale Law School.

Mr. Notebaert is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Ameritech. He is also a trustee of Northwestern University, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Council on Competitiveness. Mr. Notebaert received a bachelor of arts degree and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin.

The Council was established within the Department of Commerce to advise the President on matters related to export performance and to encourage export expansion. The Council also provides a forum for resolving trade-related problems among business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors.
