REGO II MEANS BUSINESS

This week at the White House, President Clinton and Vice President Gore announced their Regulatory Reinvention Initiative, ordering a major overhaul of the nation's regulatory system and how it works with the American business community. All agencies are to immediately conduct a comprehensive review of their rules to identify regulations that are either obsolete, burdensome to business, or both. The audience of Cabinet Secretaries and regulatory agency heads were told to work with their customers -- the business community -- to reassess how regulations are developed, which should be deleted or changed, and how enforcement could be improved. The President and Vice President offered a set of rules for reinventing regulations to produce a government that works better for less. Regulators were presented with a laminated business card with these rules:

Safe food, cars, planes, factories, and toys Clean water and air
Sound financial institutions

REGO II ISN'T JUST ABOUT REGULATING. BUSINESS WILL ALSO BENEFIT WHEN...
There are fewer federal agencies and programs. Fewer decisions are made in Washington. Customers see marked service improvements. Americans again trust their government.
