PRESIDENT NAMES SIX MEMBERS TO TRADE POLICY COMMITTEE

President Clinton today announced his intention to appoint six members to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations:

George Ariyoshi of Hawaii is a former Governor of Hawaii. He is of counsel in the law firm of Watanabe, Ing and Kawashima, and an international business consultant.

W. L. Lyons Brown, Jr. of Kentucky is Chairman of the Board of Brown-Forman Corporation.

Ralph Gerson of Michigan is the Executive Vice- President of Guardian Industries Corp, and President and Chief Executive Officer of Guardian International Corp.

Dean R. Kleckner of Iowa is President of the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Lewis E. Platt of California is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hewlett-Packard Company.

Jeannette S. Wagner of New York is the President of Estee Lauder International, Inc.

The Committee is responsible for providing overall policy advice on matters concerning objectives and bargaining positions before entering into a trade agreement, the operation of any trade agreement once entered into, and other matters arising in connection with trade policy of the United States. Staff and administrative support for the Committee are provided by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
