                PRESIDENT NAMES CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR OF 
        NATIONAL SECURITY TELECOMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE 

     The President today announced his intention to designate William

T. Astray to be Chairman and Charles R. Lee to be Vice Chairman of the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

Mr. Astray, of Kansas, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sprint Corporation and has previously served as Vice Chairman of NSTAC. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics at Denison University and a master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Mr. Lee is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GTE Corporation in Stamford, Connecticut. He earned a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from Cornell University and a master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

The President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee is a Federal Advisory Committee designed to provide information and advice to the President regarding telecommunications planning. It is composed of up to 30 telecommunications industry executives.
