                PRESIDENT NAMES DR. KAY DICKERSIN TO THE 
                     NATIONAL CANCER ADVISORY BOARD

     The President today announced his intent to appoint Kay Dickersin,

Ph.D., to the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB).

Dr. Kay Dickersin of Maryland is Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine and Director of the Baltimore Cochrane Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Dickersin is Co-founder of Arm-in-Arm, a Baltimore- based breast cancer support organization, and Co-chair of the Research Task Force of the National Breast Cancer Coalition. She currently serves on the Department of the Army Breast Cancer Integration Panel and the Co-chairs Committee of the Department of Health and Human Services National Action Plan on Breast Cancer. In addition, Dr. Dickersin has served in scientific and consultative capacities relating to breast cancer at the National Cancer Institute, the Institute of Medicine, the Maryland Department of Health and Metal Hygiene and national and international clinical trial data and safety monitoring committees.

The National Cancer Advisory board (NCAB) was established in 1971 by the National Cancer Act. The NCAB advises the Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Health and Human Services Secretary on scientific policy issues and provides approval for grants which are funded by NCI according to available sources.
