            PRESIDENT NAMES SHEILA CHESTON AS GENERAL COUNSEL 
                            OF THE AIR FORCE

President Clinton has nominated Sheila C. Cheston of Maryland to be the next General Counsel of the United States Air Force.

Ms. Cheston has served as Deputy General Counsel of the Air Force since October 1993. From April 1993 to September 1993, she was General Counsel to the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission. Prior to her service with the government, she was a partner at the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, DC. Prior to that, she was a law clerk for the Honorable W.A. Norris, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1984 to 1985. She has also been an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown Law School since 1991, where she taught International Civil Litigation.

Ms. Cheston received her B.A. from Dartmouth College, and her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law. She will replace Gil Casellas, who is now Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
