PRESIDENT NAMES NEW EXPORT COUNCIL

The President today announced his intention to appoint twenty-five members to the President's Export Council, including C. Michael Armstrong as Chair and Elizabeth J. Coleman as Vice-Chair of the Council.

"I am proud to announce the appointment of such a talented and experienced group of individuals to the Export Council," the President said. "I look forward to their recommendations as we move ahead to reduce the barriers of trade, open world wide markets to our goods and services, and create jobs for American workers."

Commerce Secretary Ron Brown added, "The new members of the President's Export Council comprise an important resource for advice and expertise, further enhancing this Administration's already successful National Export Strategy."

The Council was established within the Department of Commerce to advise the President on matters related to export performance and to encourage export expansion. The Council also provides a forum for resolving trade-related problems among business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors.

The following members were announced today:

J. Joseph Adorjan of Missouri is President of Emerson Electric Company.

C. Michael Armstrong of California is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hughes Aircraft Company.

John J. Barry of the District of Columbia is the International President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Carol Bartz of California is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Autodesk, Inc.

George Becker of Pennsylvania is President-elect of the United Steelworkers of America.

Edgar Bronfman, Jr. of New York is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Seagram Company, Ltd.

Dean Buntrock of Illinois is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WMX Technologies, Inc.

John F. Carlson of Minnesota is President and Chief Executive Officer of Cray Research, Inc.

Elizabeth J. Coleman of New York is Chairman of Maidenform, Inc.

Susan Corrales-Diaz of California is President and owner of Systems Integrated, Inc.

Lawrence Ellison of California is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Systems Corporation.
