Statement by the Press Secretary

On October 15, 1994, the Counsel to the President, Abner Mikva, received a subpoena from the Office of the Independent Counsel investigating Secretary Mike Espy. The subpoena seeks production of documents "accumulated for, relating in any way to, or considered in any fashion, by those persons who were consulted and/or contributed directly or indirectly to all drafts and/or versions of [the White House Counsel's] report dated October 11, 1994, subject: Report on Secretary Espy, Memorandum for the President."

The subpoena requires that documents be produced on November 10, 1994. The White House will comply.
