           PRESIDENT NAMES HERBERT M. RUTHERFORD TO BE UNITED 
              STATES MARSHAL FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

The President announced today the nomination of Herbert M. Rutherford III of Washington, D.C. to be U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia.

Since 1985, Rutherford has been serving in the capacity of U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia. Previously, he served as the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia from 1982-1985. Rutherford has also served Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal in New Jersey and in the Northern District of Ohio.

Rutherford was born on June 14, 1948 in Washington, D.C. He served in the United States Army from 1967-1970. He is married to the former Gayle Williams.

          PRESIDENT NAMES ROBERT BRADFORD ENGLISH TO BE UNITED 
          STATES MARSHAL FOR THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF MISSOURI

The President announced today the nomination of Robert Bradford English to be United States Marshal for the Western District of Missouri.

Since 1978, Brad English has served as the Security Chief for the Capitol Police Department in Jefferson City, Missouri. Previously, he worked with the Jefferson City Police Department as a detective from 1975-1978.

English was born on April 12, 1952 in Jefferson City, Missouri. He received an A.A. Degrees from Lincoln University in 1981 and an M.P.A. Degree from the University of Missouri in 1984. He currently resides in Jefferson City with his wife and two children.

                 PRESIDENT NAMES STEVEN SCOTT ALM TO BE 
           UNITED STATES ATTORNEY FOR THE DISTRICT OF HAWAII
                                    
     The President announced today the nomination of Steven Scott Alm

to be the United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii.

Since 1985, Alm has been the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii. He has also served as an adjunct professor for the Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii since 1992.

Steven Alm received a B.S. in 1976 and a Masters in education in 1979 from the University of Oregon. He received a J.D. from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California in 1983. He is married to Haunai Ho Alm and has one son.
