        PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES VIRGIL M. SPEAKMAN AND JEROME 
        F. KEVER AS  MEMBERS OF THE RAILROAD RETIREMENT BOARD

President Clinton announced today his intention to nominate speakman of Ohio and Jerome F. Kever of Illinois to serve as a Members of the Railroad Retirement Board.

Mr. Speakman is currently on the Board and will be renominated as the Employee Representative. He is the former President of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman. He has also served as Vice President of the Railway Labor Executives Association and as Secretary- Treasurer of the Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO.

Mr. Kever also currently serves on the Board as the Carrier Representative. Previously, he served as a private consultant and as Vice President and Corporate Controller for the Santa Fe Pacific Corporation.

The Railroad Retirement Board administers the Railroad Retirement Act of 1974. Its responsibilities include making awards and certifying payments and deciding issues of law and fact relating to annuities and death benefits.
