PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES BARBARA HANDMAN TO FDR BOARD

President Clinton today announced his intention appoint Barbara Handman of New York as a member of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Commission.

Ms. Handman is vice president of People For the American Way. She is active in the Eleanor Roosevelt Foundation, whose mission is to build a memorial to the late Mrs. Roosevelt. In addition, Ms. Handman co- produced a musical show staged on the Mall during the inaugural week.

The memorial commission is responsible for the construction of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial on the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, Washington, DC. The recent groundbreaking for the Memorial was the culmination of approximately 45 years of effort. The dedication is planned for mid-1996. The commission has just undertaken a $10 million capital campaign to raise the necessary funds to complete construction.
