PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES HIS INTENTION TO APPOINT FREDERICK HUMPHRIES TO THE BOARD OF ADVISORS ON HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
President Clinton today announced his intention to appoint Frederick Humphries to the Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities advises the President and the Secretary of Education on the development of a federal program designed to achieve an increase in the participation of historically black colleges and universities in federally sponsored progams. The Board also advises on methods of increasing the private sector role in strengthening historically black colleges and unversities. Particular emphasis is placed on facilitating technical, planning, and development advice to historically black colleges and universities, with the goal of ensuring long-term viability of such institutions.
Frederick S. Humphries, of Florida, is the President of Florida A & M University. Prior to his current position, Dr. Humphries served as President of Tennessee State University for 11 years. Dr. Humphries' other college-related involvements include serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of NAFEO, member of the National Science Foundation Advisory Committee and member of the Advisory Council to the Panhandle Regional Center of Excellence in Mathematics, Science, Computers and Technology at Florida A & M. Dr. Humphries is on the Board of Directors of Barnett Bank of Florida and Wal-Mart,Inc.
