      PRESIDENT NAMES 2 TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE BARRY 
                GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP AND EXCELLENCE 
                      IN EDUCATION FOUNDATION

     President Clinton today announced his intention to nominate

Peggy Goldwater Clay and Niranjan S. Shah to the Board of Trustees of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

Peggy Goldwater-Clay of California is the youngest of four children born to Senator Barry Goldwater and Peggy Johnson Goldwater. Ms. Goldwater-Clay is President of Goldwater's Foods of Arizona, a food company that produces a nationally distributed line of Southwestern inspired foods. She started her career in the food industry creating "Peggy Jane's" Salad Dressing, which was sold to Knott's Berry Farms food division. Ms. Goldwater-Clay has demonstrated commitment to civic and community affairs. She has been involved in the Orange County Trauma Society, the American Diabetes Association and has been on the Board of Directors of the Children's Center of Orange County. Ms. Goldwater-Clay was educated at the Judson School in Scottsdale, Arizona and Mt. Vernon College in Washington, D.C.

Niranjan S. Shah of Illinois is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Globetrotters Engineering Corporation, which he founded in 1974. As CEO, Mr. Shah is responsible for managing of 150 professionals located throughout the U.S. and in Indonesia and the Philippines. Globetrotters Engineering has been awarded contracts by the U.S. Department of Commerce to operate minority Business Development Centers. Globetrotters Engineering has served as one of the lead consultants for the Deep Tunnel Project for Pollution Control in Chicago and has been involved with projects for the Department of State, the Agency for International Development and the Government of Belize.

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is responsible for supervising and directing a scholarship program aimed at fostering and encouraging excellence in the sciences and mathematics.
