President Clinton today announced his intention to appoint Anita Arnold of Texas to be a member of the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees.

Ms. Arnold is a board member of Opportunities, Inc. in Texarkana, Texas. She is also a board member of the Texarkana Historical Museum Systems, the Perot Theatre, the Texas Committee for the Humanities, and the Texarkana Humanities and Regional Arts Council.

The Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is responsible for the maintenance and administration of the center. Specifically, the board is charged with four programmatic mandates: the presentation of classical and contemporary music, opera, dance and poetry; the presentation of lectures and other programs; the development of programs for children, youth, and the elderly; and the provision of facilities for civic activities.
