PRESIDENT NAMES TIMOTHY BARNICLE AS ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR POLICY

AND BUDGET AT THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

The President today nominated Timothy Barnicle as Assistant Secretary for Policy and Budget at the Department of Labor.

Timothy Barnicle of Maryland has 25 years of legislative and executive branch public policy experience at the federal and state levels. In 1973, Mr. Barnicle served as a Congressional Fellow for Congressman David Obey. Later that year, he joined the staff of Senator Hubert Humphrey, eventually becoming his Legislative Director, where he was responsible for developing and working to enact the Senator's domestic legislative agenda.

In 1978, Mr. Barnicle was appointed the Labor Department's Regional Administrator in New England where, as CFO, he was responsible for a budget of over one billion dollars. Concurrently, Mr. Barnicle administered the Department of Labor's National Office of Youth Programs with a budget of over 800 million dollars. On the state level, Mr. Barnicle served as the Director of Federal Relations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and was responsible for developing and implementing legislative strategies that secured billions of dollars in federal assistance for the state. From 1986 to 1991, Mr. Barnicle was the Legislative Director for Senator John Kerry. Since 1991, Mr. Barnicle has represented a wide range of private clients in appropriations, tax and other policy areas.

Mr. Barnicle, a native of Worcester, Massachusetts, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Assumption College in 1966, and his Masters degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University in 1967.
