STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

President Clinton will meet with President Meles Zenawi head of the Transnational Government of Ethiopia on Thursday, August 11, at the White House in a working visit.

President Clinton cited this meeting as an important opportunity for the United States to reaffirm support for Ethiopia's commitment to multiparty democracy, its adoption of economic reform measures, and the food security problem in the Horn of Africa. The two leaders will also discuss bilateral and regional issues related to the protection of human rights, and the importance of cooperation on measures for environmental protection.
