STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

The President has invited Leonid Kuchma, President of Ukraine, to come to Washington for an official working visit on November 29. The invitation was conveyed today by Vice President Gore who is in Kiev to meet with President Kuchma. This White House visit will be President Kuchma's first meeting with President Clinton. The President looks forward to the opportunity to make progress in the U.S.-Ukrainian strategic relationship. The two leaders will discuss the progress of economic and democratic reform in Ukraine as well as continued joint efforts on a range of security issues.
