           PRESIDENT NAMES ANTHONY S. EARL AS A MEMBER OF THE 
              ADVISORY BOARD OF THE SAINT LAWRENCE SEAWAY 
                        DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

President Clinton today announced his intention to nominate Anthony S. Earl to be a Member of the Advisory Board of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.

Governor Earl is a Partner in the law firm of Quarles and Brady. He previously served one term as Governor of Wisconsin from 1983-1986 and chaired the Committee on Energy and Environment of the National Governors' Association. He also served as Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for five years and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Protection Fund.

Mr. Earl received a B.A. Degree from Michigan State University in 1958 and a J. D. from the University of Chicago in 1961. He was a Lieutenant in the Navy with the Judge Advocate General Corps from 1962-1965. He is married to Sheila Coyle, has four daughters: Julia, Anne, Mary & Catherine and lives in Madison, WI.

The five member Advisory Board of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation serves as the federal equivalent of a corporate board of directors. The Board advises the Administrator of the Corporation on a broad range of issues including trade promotion, commodities shipping, pollution control and maintenance of ports and facilities.
