Statement by the Press Secretary

The President spoke with Chairman Moynihan today to thank him for his efforts and for his commitment to moving his Committee forward. The President told the Chairman that his efforts demonstrate his commitment to guaranteed coverage for every American that can never be taken away. The Chairman is working diligently to report a bill out of his Committee that achieves this goal. The Chairman recognizes the importance of guaranteeing universal coverage to all Americans, especially the millions of middle class working Americans who would be harmed by anything less. The Chairman is committed to keeping the process moving and working with Majority Leader Mitchell, Chairman Kennedy and others to bring a bill to the floor.
