                 PRESIDENT NAMES JOHN LYLE AS A MEMBER 
                  OF THE FEDERAL COUNCIL ON THE AGING

The President today announced his intention to appoint John E. Lyle as a Member of the Federal Council on the Aging.

John E. Lyle, of Texas, is currently of Counsel to the law firm of Harris and Quinn, and in addition serves as Legal Counsel and Business Director for numerous companies. Mr. Lyle served in the Texas State Legislature for two terms and the U.S. House of Representatives from for five terms. He is a veteran of the United States Army.

The Federal Council on the Aging is responsible for advising and assisting the President on matters relating to the special needs of older Americans. In addition to other tasks, the Council reviews and evaluates Federal policies regarding the aging for the purpose of appraising their value and impact on the lives of older individuals. The Council also advises the Commissioner on Aging on these matters.
