PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES DISASTER IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, FEMA FUNDING MADE AVAILABLE The President today declared a major disaster exists in the
District of Columbia and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas struck by severe ice storms from January 17 - 21, 1994.
The President's action makes federal funding available to the District of Columbia government on a cost-sharing basis for the repair or replacement of public facilities damaged by the severe winter ice storm.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director James Lee Witt named Robert J. Gunter of FEMA's regional office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to coordinate Federal recovery operations in the affected area.
