         PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES SHEILA M. MCGUIRE AS A MEMBER 
            OF THE RISK ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT COMMISSION

     The President today announced his intention to appoint Sheila M.

McGuire as a member of the Risk Assessment and Management Commission.

Dr. Sheila McGuire, of Iowa, is President of the Iowa Health Research Institute. She received her Doctorate of Medical Sciences in Epidemiology and is an assistant professor on the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard University. She is currently a member of the White House Health Professions Review Group.

The Risk Assessment and Management Commission was established by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 for the purpose of investigating the policy implications and appropriate circumstances for using risk assessment and risk management techniques in regulatory programs dealing with potential health effects of exposure to hazardous substances. A report to the Congress and the President is required by November 1994 and the Commission is mandated to be disbanded by August 1995.
