           PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES BECKY JANE WALLACE AND 
              WALTER BAKER EDMISTEN AS U. S. MARSHALS

The President today announced his intention to nominate Becky Jane Wallace as U. S. Marshal for the Middle District of North Carolina and Walter Baker Edmisten as U. S. Marshal for the Western District of North Carolina.

Becky Jane Wallace has been a Reserve Deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department in North Carolina since 1981. She has conducted background investigations as an Alcohol Law Enforcement Agent, served arrest and search warrants, and worked undercover on illegal alcohol and drug buys. She served as Deputy Sheriff with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department where, in addition to presenting drug seminars in schools, she served arrest warrants, civil papers, transported involuntary commitments and worked on undercover assignments in surrounding counties.

Ms. Wallace received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Montgomery Community College in 1988 and a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate from Montgomery Community College in 1976 in addition to several training certificates.

Walter B. Edmisten is a career law enforcement officer with over 20 years experience. Mr. Edmisten has been a Supervisory Special Agent (Criminal Investigator) with the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service since 1976. In this capacity, Mr. Edmisten has developed and implemented the Law Enforcement Program for protection of forest resources, users, and property for the National Forests in North Carolina. From 1970 to 1976, Mr. Edmisten was a Special Agent with the U. S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

Mr. Edmisten received a B. S. Degree in Secondary Education with emphasis in biology, health, and physical education from Appalachian State University in 1970. He also attended several specialized training courses.
