        VICE PRESIDENT GORE TRAVELS TO MARRAKESH, MOROCCO
                 Attends GATT Ministerial Meeting

     Vice President Al Gore departed late yesterday evening from

Washington, DC to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in Marrakesh, Morocco. Tipper Gore and their son, Albert, will accompany the Vice President.

The Vice President will address the plenary session of the GATT Trade Negotiations Committee on Thursday, April 14. Prior to his speech, the Vice President will meet with King Hassan II of Morocco at the Royal Palace in Marrakesh, and the Vice President and Mrs. Gore will attend a private luncheon with the King and his family.

While in Marrakesh, vice President Gore will also meet with Peter Sutherland, Director-General of GATT; Sir Leon Brittan, Member of the European Commission with responsibility for trade; Tsutomu Hata, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Japan; and the trade ministers of several countries in the region.

The Vice President will return to Washington early Friday morning.
