PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES MAJOR DISASTER IN MARYLAND

President Clinton today declared a major disaster in the state of Maryland and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by ice storms from February 8 to February 18, 1994.

The President's action makes federal funding available to affected local governments in a six county area. The counties include Calvert, Caroline, Charles, Dorchester, St. Mary's and Talbot.

Federal funding is available to eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for reimbursement for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair of public utilities damaged by the ice storms.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is continuing to conduct damage surveys in other areas of Maryland. Additional counties may be added after the assessments are complete.
