      PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES CYNTHIA A. METZLER AS ASSISTANT
          SECRETARY OF LABOR FOR ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT

The President today announced his intent to nominate Cynthia A. Metzler as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Administration and Management.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management is responsible for the Department of Labor's administrative policies and programs in personnel, equal employment opportunity, safety and health, procurement, information systems and administrative services. This division also provides centralized administrative and management support service to the Department of Labor agencies located in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area through its National Capital Service Center.

Currently, the Associate Administrator for the U.S. General Service Administration (GSA), Ms. Metzler oversees the daily operation of agency-wide administrative services and policy which include personnel, management controls, training, and audit and inspection reports. Metzler has demonstrated exceptional skills in improving management efficiency at GSA.

Ms. Metzler's prior positions include, head of the Florida Rural Legal Service, Chief Executive Officer of an international women's organization, an adviser to the head administrator for federal labor-management relations, and senior manager in Presidential Personnel.

While serving as Associate Director of Presidential Personnel, Metzler worked to fill some of the top posts in the Department of Labor (DOL), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) , among others.

Metzler graduated from Purdue University and received a law degree from Indiana University and a master's in Human Resources from American University.
