PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES VICTOR ZONANA ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL AT THE DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY
President Clinton today announced his intention to nominate Victor Zonana as Assistant General Counsel of the Treasury. In this position, he will serve as Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Zonana is a senior tax partner in the New York office of the Washington, D.C. based firm of Arnold & Porter.
In 1975 Mr. Zonana served at the Internal Revenue Service as Special Consultant to the Assistant Commissioner for Employee Plans and Exempt Organizations. Mr. Zonana also served as Deputy Tax Legislative Counsel at the Department of the Treasury from 1975 to 1976.
Currently on sabbatical from his firm, Mr. Zonana is the Charles S. Lyon Visiting Professor of Law at New York University School of Law.
Mr. Zonana is a graduate of Hofstra College. He received his LL.B. in 1964 and LL.M. (in taxation) in 1966 from New York University School of Law. He is married to Mary Linda Haynie. They have two children and reside in New York City and Spencertown, New York.
