                    STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
         OFFICIAL VISIT OF PRESIDENT LEONID KRAVCHUK OF UKRAINE

At the invitation of President Clinton, President Leonid Kravchuk of Ukraine will make an official visit to the United States March 3-5. The two Presidents will meet at the White House on March 4. This will be President Clinton's first meeting with President Kravchuk in Washington, following their meetings in Kiev and Moscow during his trip to Europe in January. During his stop in Kiev, the President said he looked forward to marking a new beginning in relations between the United States and Ukraine. The two leaders will discuss ways in which they hope to accomplish this, including their mutual efforts to promote economic reform in Ukraine. They will also discuss implementation of the Trilateral Statement on the removal of nuclear weapons from Ukraine, and related security issues.
