SCROGGINS NAMED TO MARITIME COMMISSION

The President announced today his intention to nominate Joe Scroggins, Jr. to be Commissioner of the Federal Maritime Commission.

"Joe Scroggins is a talented public servant with an outstanding knowledge of maritime issues. I thank him for his service on the Maritime Commission," said the President.

Scroggins has been the Senior Deputy Port Director of the Tampa Port Authority since 1990. In that role, he has been responsible for long-range planning and budget management for one of the largest ports in the country. He was previously Director of Facilities and Director of Planning for the Port of Houston Authority. Prior to that he had been a senior transportation analyst for John J. McMullen Associates, Inc. and an economist for Conoco, Inc. From 1967-71, he was Assistant Dean of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Scroggins is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, and holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. He and his wife reside in Tampa.
