For Immediate Release December 3, 1993
STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
The President met at the White House today with President Queet K.J. Masire of Botswana. The President expressed his deep admiration for Botswana's long tradition of democracy, its respect for human rights and its successful market economy. The two Presidents regretted that they had not been able to meet in New York at the U.N. General Assembly, as had been planned, but looked forward to continued cooperation in the future.
The two Presidents also discussed the situation in the southern African region and expressed optimism regarding progress in South Africa toward a non-racial democracy.
President Masire also met with National Security Advisor Anthony Lake.
