PRESIDENT NAMES MITCHELL TO TECHNOLOGY POST AT COMMERCE

President Clinton announced today that he intends to nominate GTE executive Graham R. Mitchell to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Technology Policy.

"I have called on the Commerce Department to take the lead in giving our country the technolocial capability to win in a competitive world marketplace," said the President. "With his years of high-tech management experience, Graham Mitchell has the know-how that effort requires."

Mitchell is a senior management executive with substantial experienced in managing technology and its coupling to other elements of business in a broad range of manufacturing and service industries. He is currently the Director of Planning and Forecasting for GTE Laboratories Incorporated, where he has worked since 1980. He had spent the previous twelve years as an executive with the General Electric Company, and from 1964-68 was a research engineer for GEC England.

In addition, Mitchell is a frequent speaker for industry and government groups, has lectured at a number of prestigious universities, and has participated in several domestic and international U.S. Government studies. He holds a B.Sc in Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Westminster in London. He is a resident of Newton Center, Massachusetts.
