THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release October 18, 1993
STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
The President today congratulated the two winners of the 1993 Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award for excellence in quality management.
The winners are Eastman Chemical Co. of Kingsport, Tennessee in the manufacturing category and Ames Rubber Corp. of Hamburg, New Jersey in the small business category.
The Baldridge Award program was established by Congress in 1987 to promote awareness about quality management, to recognize quality achievements of U.S. companies and to publicize successful quality strategies.
Since 1987, 19 companies have won the award. Over one million copies of the award criteria, which thousands of organizations use as a "roadmap" for quality management, have been distributed.
