News Advisory:
At the invitation of Governor Lawton Chiles, Associate Attorney General Webster Hubbell will visit South Florida on July 15 and 16 to particpate in an immigration emergency planning meeting.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 15 at Miami Dade Community Colege and will open to the press from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Hubbell and the governor will be available to answer questions at 11:45 a.m. outside the building.
While in South Florida, Hubbell will also visit some of the places that are affected locally by immigration such as schools, hospitals and detention facilities.
Attorney General Janet Reno requested that Hubbell go to South Florida on her behalf in order to avoid even the appearance of any conflict of interest on issues related to her previous position in the state. As associate attorney general, Hubbell overseas several areas of the department for Reno, including immigration and environment. This is his first trip since being confirmed by the Senate on May 28.
