DYHRKOPP NAMED TO POSTAL SERVICE BOARD

(Washington, DC) The President announced his intention today to nominate Einar Dyhrkopp of Shawneetown, IL to be a member of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors.

Dyhrkopp is President and founder of Tecumseh International Corporation, active in Southern Illinois banks and is a livestock and grain farmer. He has instigated land development and operated Dyhrkopp Development, a constuction company specializing in housing and commercial building. For 22 years he was a partner and chief operating officer of Shawnee Cabinets, Inc., a Southern Illionios manufacturing concern. He has been successfully involved in coal marketing for the past 18 years. A former Mayor of Shawneetown, he played a key role in the establishment of the Shawneetown Regional Port Authority on the Ohio River, and served as a member of the port authority board for several years.

Dyhkopp a combat veteran of the U.S. Navy, is a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Shrine. He is also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

PRESIDENT NAMES GOULD TO NLRB

(Washington, DC) President Clinton announced today that he intends to nominate law professor and arbitrator William Gould to the National Labor Relations Board.

"William Gould has a tremendous amount of both practical and scholarly experience in labor law," said the President, "and stands for the principles I want the NLRB to uphold -- the rights of all workers to participate in labor organizations, and the need for labor and management to work together to increase our nation's competitiveness in a global marketplace. I think that he will be an excellent addition to the Labor Relations Board."

Gould has been a professor at Stanford Law School since 1972 and a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators since 1970. In the latter capacity, he has arbitrated or mediated more than 200 labor disputes, with the most prominent including a dispute involving the Detroit Federation of Teachers and the 1992 salary disputes in Major League Baseball. He has also focused on labor issues in his academic work. Among the books that he has authored are, A Primer on American Labor Law, Black Workers in White Unions: Job Discrimination in the United States, Japan's Reshaping of American Labor Law, and Strikes, Dispute Procedures and Arbitration: Essays on Labor Law.

Before joining the Stanford faculty, Gould taught at Wayne State Law School and was a Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School. He also worked as an Attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, represented management in labor law matters for a private firm in New York, and was Assistant General Counsel to the United Auto Workers. Gould has also taught in visiting capacities at a number of overseas institutions, including the University of Tokyo, Cambridge University, and the European University Institute.

Gould holds an A.B. from the University of Rhode Island and an LL.B. from Cornell Law School, and studied at the London School of Economics. He is 56 years old.

PRESIDENT NAMES BLAIR TO PUBLIC BROADCASTING CHAIR

(Washington, DC) President Clinton announced his intention today to nominate University of Arkansas political scientist Diane Blair to be a member of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

"Diane Blair is one of the most capable and committed people I know," said the President. "She is one of the most respected people in our state, and a dear friend of mine and of Hillary's. I think that she will do an excellent job of maintaining the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's outstanding record."

Blair has taught at the University of Arkansas, Fayeteville since 1968, and was made a full professor in 1990. She had previously been a Legislative Aide to Senator Stuart Symington and a Research Assistant to the Senate Special Committee on Unemployment Problems. She is the author of two books, Arkansas Politics and Government: Do the People Rule?, and Silent Hattie Speaks: The Personal Journal of Senator Hattie Caraway. In addition, she has contributed chapters to a number of other books, and authored numerous journal articles on Arkansas history and politics, and on other subjects. She holds a B.A. from Cornell University and an M.A. from the University of Arkansas.

                 PRESIDENT NAMES U.S. ATTORNEYS 
              FOR NORTH DAKOTA, EASTERN WASHINGTON

(Washington, DC) The President intends to nominate James P. Connelly to be U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington and John Schneider to be U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota, the White House announced today.

Connelly is the President of Winston & Cashatt, a Spokane law firm which he has been associated with (under different names) since 1956. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at the Gonzaga University School of Law. Before joining the firm that became Winston & Cashatt, Connelly was a Criminal Trial Deputy in the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and a clerk for Washington Supreme Court Justice Joseph Mallory. He attended the University of Notre Dame and Gonzaga University , and holds a L.L.B. from the Gonzaga University School of Law. He and his wife, Marianne, have eight children.

John Schneider served from 1982-1992 in the North Dakota House of Representatives, the last four years as Minority Floor Leader. He has also served as Chairman at different times of the committees on the Judiciary, Law Enforcement, Court Services, Taxation, and Higher Education. In addition, he has been a lawyer in private practice since 1975. Schneider, 47, served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1967-69, and as an officer in the Marine Corps from 1970-73. He holds a B.S. from North Dakota State University and J.D. from the University of North Dakota. He is married and has two sons.
