GORE TO VISIT PHILLY FOR CONFERENCE ON 'REINVENTING' GOVERNMENT

Will Examine Ways Government Can Work Better and Cost Less

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Al Gore will travel to Philadelphia, PA, Friday (6/25) for a day-long conference to examine how the federal government can learn from cutting-edge businesses and state and local governments that have incorporated innovative management styles and new principles for production, making them more effecitve and efficient and saving money in the process.

The conference will be held at Congress Hall at Independence Square Friday, June 25.

"The federal government can benefit from the experience of business and industry officials and state and local leaders who have found new ways to serve their customers better at less cost. This conference is about seeing how the federal government can learn from some of those success stories," the Vice President said.

The Conference will bring together business leaders who have brought innovative management practices to their companies to increase profits and efficiency; leaders in state and local government who have learned from business and applied similar principles to make their governments work better; and national experts in management and organization.

The Vice President is leading the National Performance Review, an intensive, six-month study of the federal government that will produce a report with specific recommendations for how to streamline government, make it more effective and efficient, serve its customers -- the American people -- better, and cost less. The Vice President has held meetings with industry and government leaders in Washington, D.C. and across the country to hear their suggestions and learn from those who have experienced success with "reinvention."
