PRESIDENT NAMES TWO TO AMTRAK BOARD

(Washington, DC) President Clinton today appointed Robert Kiley, the former Chairman of New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and former Ohio Congressman Don Pease to the Board of Directors of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (AMTRAK). The appointments are effective immediately.

"Robert Kiley and Don Pease have both had long and distinguished careers in public service," said the President. "They both will make excellent additions to this important Board."

Kiley is currently the President and CEO of Fischbach Corporation, a New York electrical and mechanical engineering firm, and a member of the New York State Finance Control Board, the New York State Subcommittee of the Council on Fiscal and Economic Priorities, and the Citizens Committee for New York City. As Chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transit Authority from 1983-90, he was responsible for five major transportation agencies: the New York City Transit Authority, the Long Island Railroad, the Metro-North Commuter Railroad, the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, and the Metropolitan Suburban Bus Agency. He had previously been Chairman and CEO of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Deputy Mayor of Boston, and Associate Director of the Police Foundation in Washington, DC. From 1963-70, he served on the staff of the Central Intelligence Agency. A native of Minnesota, Kiley is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He and his wife, Rona, have two children. He is 57 years old.

Don Pease served as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1976 until his retirement from Congress in 1992. He was a member of the Ways and Means Committee and the Budget Committee. Before his election to the House of Representatives, he served two terms in the Ohio Senate, three terms in the Ohio House, and two terms on the Oberlin City Council. A journalist by trade, he was the editor and publisher of the prize-winning Oberlin News-Tribune until he entered public life. He holds a B.A. and M.A. from Ohio University, and was a Fulbright Scholar. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Pease, 61, is married to the former Jeanne Wendt. They have an adult daughter, Jennifer.
