     ADMINISTRATION INTRODUCES NATIONAL SERVICE LEGISLATION;
            INITIATIVE GAINS EARLY BI-PARTISAN SUPPORT

The Administration's National Service Trust Act of 1993 was introduced yesterday with significant bi-partisan support in both Houses of Congress.

Among the first-day cosponsors of the legislation were 18 Senators (14 Democrats and 4 Republicans) and 147 House Members (128 Democrats and 19 Republicans).

"We are pleased by the support our national service legislation is gaining on both sides of the political aisle, and we will continue to work hard over the next days and weeks to reach all Members of Congress -- Democrats and Republicans alike," said Eli Segal, Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of National Service. "National Service is not about politics; it is about basic goals that all of us share."
